Special Screening of “Eephus”

On Tuesday, September 22nd, at 6:30pm, at the Adams Academy, Quincy Historical Society will host a special screening of the 2026 independent film, “Eephus,” described as a poignant and humorous exploration of the bonds, rituals, and rivalries of New England community rec-league baseball.

The title “Eephus” refers to a trick pitch of the same name, where the pitcher throws a very slow, high arching ball overhand to deliberately disrupt the batter’s timing.

Directed by Carson Lund, “Eephus” follows two New England recreational baseball teams as they gather for one final game on their beloved local field. Filmed in Massachusetts and set in the 1990s, the story unfolds over the course of a single autumn day, as longtime teammates and rivals play, argue, joke, and reminisce while the daylight fades. Their field is slated to be demolished to make way for a new school, giving the seemingly ordinary game an unexpected sense of nostalgia.

The film features cameo appearances from legendary Red Sox personalities Bill “Spaceman” Lee and Joe Castiglione, and from the esteemed documentarian Frederick Wiseman.

The film run time is 98 minutes.
